Four suspects have been arraigned before the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport Law Courts and charged with trafficking narcotic drugs in a case stemming from a multi-kilogram cannabis seizure in Athi River.
The accused: Marieta Mbula Nzuki, Irene Muthike Kasola, Josephat Mwangi Maina and Margaret Mbithe Musyoki appeared in court and pleaded not guilty to the charges.
According to the prosecution, the four allegedly trafficked approximately 16.084 kilogrammes of cannabis valued at over KSh 480,000 on April 14, 2026, at Ndongare area in Athi River, Machakos County. The offence is said to have been committed jointly with others who are not before the court.
Through their lawyers from the firm of Danstan Omari & Advocates, the accused applied for release on bail pending trial. While the prosecution did not oppose the request, it urged the court to first obtain a pre-bail report before making a determination.
The case will be mentioned on April 27, 2026, when the court is expected to rule on the bail application. A probation officer has been directed to file the pre-bail report ahead of that date.
