A Nairobi resident has moved to court seeking KSh200 million in compensation, claiming he suffered serious health complications after allegedly being issued expired drugs at a city hospital.
Dominic Osiemo Nyang’au filed the urgent petition seeking conservatory orders to keep the hospital pharmacy closed pending investigations into claims that expired medicines were allegedly being stored and dispensed to patients.
According to court documents filed by lawyer Danstan Omari, Nyang’au visited the hospital on March 17, 2026, before undergoing an endoscopy procedure a day later.
After the procedure, he was allegedly prescribed medication including PROBIO, while another drug, LAEKIT, was reportedly unavailable at the hospital pharmacy.
The petitioner claims that days after taking the medication, he developed swelling and pain in his feet and was later advised to undergo kidney tests after doctors allegedly linked the symptoms to possible kidney complications.
He is also seeking court orders barring one of the respondents and their agents from allegedly threatening or interfering with him as investigations into samples collected from the hospital pharmacy continue.
In the suit, Nyang’au argues that unless the court intervenes, other patients could face similar health risks due to what he describes as negligent treatment and unsafe pharmaceutical practices.
He wants the court to hold the respondents liable for alleged pain, medical expenses, loss of income, mental anguish and continued suffering.
