Lamu Senator Joseph Githuku has asked the Director of Criminal Investigations, Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission(EACC) to investigate how sh19 million was used to construct a 700 meters road that is in deplorable state in the said county.
The senator wants the anti-graft body and DCI to move with speed and take action against contractors who have been engaging in substandard work of constructing and repairing roads in the said county.
The senator who used his own resources to repair the Lake-Kenyatta -Uziwa Junction Road which acts as an entrance to Mpeketoni town claimed there was a clear indication of squandering of Public Resources to the detriment of the residents of the said county.
“The road, an entrance to Mpeketoni town, Lake Kenyatta Primary and Mpeketoni police station has been in a sorry state for a while…With the ongoing rains and the near opening of schools, I have undertaken to repair some sections of the road to make it passable and ease movement of goods and people,” he said on Friday while overseeing the road repair.
The said road had been installed with cabros by the contractor under the patronage of the area MP Stanley Muthama. However, the same were removed before they could last six months.
Residents in the area protested the continued delay of construction of the road which had become impassable due the rains and unfinished work by the contractor.
