Director of Public Prosecution on Monday closed forgery case against Kapsaret MP Oscar Sudi after calling 14 witnesses.
Sudi is charged with forging his academic papers and also presenting a false declaration to the IEBC officials while seeking to be cleared to vie in the 2013 general elections.
The last to testify was investigating officer Derrick Kaisha who concluded his testimony on Monday after taking the stand on July 21, 2023,
He told the court yesterday that they did not act in any malice when they recommended for Sudi to be charged.
While trying to discredit the witness, Sudi’s defense team claimed that the Investigating Officer from the Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission(EACC) made a recommendation of charging Sudi yet he had not checked documents from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC)
The witness however responded by saying they were able to draw inferences from the investigations they had already conducted.
In his testimony on July 21, 2023, investigating officer told the court that Sudi forged his academic certificates so that he could secure the nomination to vie for the parliamentary seat in the 2013 General Election.
He presented to the court testimonials obtained from various educational institutions to support the charges that MP Sudi actually forged KCSE and Diploma certificates from Kenya Institute Management (KIM) in business Management when he actually did not attend those classes.
The officer further revealed that Sudi did not sit for his KCSE exam at Highway Secondary nor did he study at KIM where he claims to have attained a Diploma in Business Management.
The case will now be mentioned on February 14, 2024, to confirm whether the parties will have filed their final submissions in the case.
