It is a sigh of relief for Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi after anti-corruption court acquitted him of forging academic certificates.

Trial magistrate Felix Kombo, dismissed all the charges brought against the MP saying the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) failed to prove allegations against the legislator.

The Magistrate faulted the Investigating officer over how he obtained part of the evidence brought to court against the MP saying it had been obtained in a hotel which raised issues of credibility.

According to the Magistrate no formal documents were produced the prosecution to back up the allegations against the controversial legislator.

“Failure to produce and prove the documents means the charge can’t stand,” ruled the Magistrate.

Sudi had been charged with forging his academic papers and pressing a false declaration to IEBC officials during the 2013 General Election.

In May 2022, former Highway Secondary School Principal Patrick Maritim testified that the MP did not sit his KCSE exams at the school in 2006 as he had alleged, further that the enrollment records did not show Sudi’s name registered as a student.

In September the same year, Simon Cherop, who was the legislator’s Mathematics teacher at Tulwopng’etuny Primary School in Uasin Gishu County, testified that Sudi schooled for two years from 1995.

Mr. Cherop told the court then that Sudi, who actively participated in games, did not complete his studies at the school.
