Patiala Distillers K Limited, the manufacturer of Fly Horse Gin and Diamond Ice Ready To Drink now wants Independent Policing Oversight Authority(IPOA) to investigate the conduct of all the police officers involved in the malicious destruction of their products that were in lawful custody.
The alcohol manufacturer has denied claims that its products are illicit brew says that it will sue two MPs, Mathira Member of Parliament Eric Wamumbi and Nyeri Senator, Wamatinga Wahome who led in the malicious damage of its products.
The two lawmakers led residents to storm the offices of DCC Mathira East where they maliciously destroyed products of Patiala Distillers K Limited valued at Kes. 6 million.
The alcohol brewer, manufactures nine different brands of alcohol namely Blue vodka ice, Genius gin, Best gin, Chase vodka, Diamond ice, Flying horse, Best brandy, Blue ice coconut and Gold medal brandy.
Through lawyer Danstan Omari, the alcohol manufacturer states the the Deputy County Commissioners (DCC) and District officer acted unlawfully when they confiscated the alcohol that had been distributed to a licenced distributor on February 20, on grounds that it was unfit for human consumption.
“Our client’s unfortunate encounters with law enforcement has come as a surprise since there has been no turbulent history between my client and law enforcement,” reads the letter to IPOA by Omari.
Omari states that Patiala products are good for human consumption and meet all standard requirements by regulators such as KEBS and KRA.
The alcohol manufacturer says the events of 26th February 2024 at the DCC Mathira East were lawless and unwarranted .
The manufacturer alleges that none of its employees have ever been summoned in relation to an unlawful act and neither of them have been investigated over any criminal offence in the 15 years it has been in business.
The firm has 370 employees on pensionable terms and additional 1200 employees on monthly basis.
