National Police Service Commission(NPSC)  Chairperson Eliud Kinuthia on Saturday warned police officers and members of the public against engaging in corruption during police recruitment.

Kinuthia who did not announce when the exercise will commence revealed that the commission has put in place mechanism to ensure that there is a free and fair police recruitment exercise.

Speaking at an event in Lamu County, the NPSC boss called on the officers to conduct themselves with utmost professionalism during police recruitment exercises to reinforce public trust in the fairness of the said exercises.

National Police Service has been facing a shortage of police officers occasioned by lack of recruitment in the last financial year as some of the officers have left the service while others have retired.

Kinuthia said that the recruitment exercise would be free and should anyone be caught with a motive of bribing both parties, (the one bribing and the one taking the bribe) will be dealt with accordingly.

“This time, it does not matter whether it’s a police officer requesting for bribe or a parent giving out a bribe, they will all face the law, we want the youths who are qualified to get the jobs in the police service. The exercise is free and never require any money,” he said.
