Director General of National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) Stephen Ogenga was on Monday charged with corruptly awarding sh 4.8million tender for the supply and repair of training machines.
Ogenga was arraigned before Milimani Magistrate Zipporah Gichana and denied the charges.
According to the charge sheet, he used his office to improperly confer a benefit of 4,800,654 shillings to Xponics limited by authorizing payments to the said company in respect of a tender for the supply delivery, installation, training, servicing, maintenance and repair of sewing and training machines.
Two directors of Xponics; James Waweru and Sheila Nyakinyua were separately charged with corruptly obtaining sh4.8million for the supply and maintenance of sewing machines.
Ogenga and the two directors asked the court to grant them bail on grounds that they had cooperated with investigators and did not pose a flight risk.
The prosecution did not oppose their release on bail but urged the court to consider the amount involved was public money.
The court released them on sh 1 million cash bail and directed them not interfere with the witnesses lined up in the case and deposit their traveling documents with the court.
Former NITA Boss Paul Kipsang Kosgei who was to be charged with giving sh 5.3million benefit to Xponics, failed to appear in court to face the charges. He was ordered to appear in court on Wednesday for plea taking.
