The High court has postponed the hearing of the murder case involving former Migori Governor Okoth Obado, his personal assistant Michael Oyamo, and Casper Obiero, a clerk in Migori County to May 6.
The three are charged with the murder of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno and her unborn child in 2018.
Justice Cecelia Githua allowed the application for adjournment after she was informed that Obiero who is the third accused person, lost his wife and child in a road accident on March and they are yet to be buried.
Obiero through his lawyers informed the court that he was unable to attend the proceedings which had been slated for the whole week and requested the court to give him time to allow him go on with the funerals arrangements.
“The accident happened in March and the reason as to why they are burying the two people in May is because of finances issues and also the Luo culture which have pre and post rituals to be performed especially when you lose a wife,” his lawyer told the court.
Obado and Oyamo did not oppose the application for adjournment. The prosecution told the court that they have at least four witnesses to testify in the case who include the investigating officers
“Having heard from the third accused person advocate and other sides I allow the application as prayed and vacate the hearing dates and I also convey my sympathy to the accused. I direct that hearing resumes on 6th May at 9:30 and that the accused be present,” ruled the Judge.
