A group of professionals from Lamu County have called upon the government to take action against those spreading hate speech and violence in the said county.

The professionals who called for unity of all ethnic tribes  noted that different tribes have been living harmoniously for many years and the tension being created by a certain group of people is meant to disrupt peace and instill fear in the region.

Six people  have  so far been summoned to appear before the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives  in an ongoing crackdown on ethnic and religious hate in  the said County. Their summons followed the Interior CS’s order for immediate investigations into several individuals who were fomenting tribal and religious divides in the region.

The professionals from Lamu County  in addition asked the government to provide  a ship that will ferry people from Mombasa to Lamu since a section of the road has been washed away by the floods. They called upon well-wishers to support those affected with food stuffs, medicine and clothes.

Passengers travelling to Lamu from Mombasa are being forced to pay Sh400 for boat rides to cross a section of Garsen-Lamu road in Gamba that has been washed away by floods.

The Ministry of Roads and Transport  together with Kenya  National Highway Authority(Kenha)  has started repairing the damaged infrastructure in areas where flooding has subsided.
