Deputy Director of Programmes, Public Policy and President’s Priority Initiatives has been charged with abuse of office for demanding 2 percent of shareholding from Kentegra Pyrethrum company.
Pius Chirchir , a senior state official, is accused of demanding the said percentage to enable the company bypass the hurdles brought about by the Pyrethrum Act of 2013.
The Act requires farmers to use the electronic Tax Invoice Management System (eTIMS).
Chirchir was also to help the company in its case concerning the illegal sale of two (2) tons of Kentegra dried pyrethrum flowers to Pyrethrum Processing Company of Kenya.
“After comprehensive investigations conducted by the DCI Pius Chirchir, has been charged for abuse of office and attempting to commit a felony at the Makadara Law Courts,” read the statement from DCI.
Chichir was arraigned on April 16, 2024 charged with the two offences, and was released on a bond of Sh200,000 with one surety of the same amount or a cash bail of Sh100,000.
The matter will be mentioned on June 13, 2024 and heard on September 17.
