An elderly man who had gone to the Bungoma Law Courts for a case died within the court premises on Tuesday morning, the Judiciary has confirmed.

According to a statement from Judiciary Spokesperson Hon. Paul Ndemo, the man, who appeared frail and unwell, arrived at the court around 9 am on a motorcycle. Upon noticing his condition, a Customer Care Officer issued him a Priority Card, a service card given to the elderly, expectant mothers, persons with disabilities and the sick to allow them faster access to court services.

The Judiciary reported that the man was scheduled to appear before the Environment and Land Court. He chose to wait for his advocate and rested on the grass outside the court building together with his brothers.

However, when a court official later approached him to provide an update on his matter, the man was found unresponsive. Police officers were immediately called to the scene and confirmed that he had passed away.

“The Judiciary extends its condolences to the man’s family,” said Ndemo in the statement.

The body was taken to the Bungoma County Referral Hospital Mortuary. The cause of death has not yet been established.
