It is a relief to businesswoman Nancy Kigunzu, widely known as ‘Mathe wa Ngara’ after the high court released her on bail in the ongoing drug trafficking case leveled against her.
Nancy Kigunzu has been remand after the Magistrate Court declined to release her on bail after she was charged with trafficking bhang worth Sh 18.3million.
She was arrested in connection with a drug bust in Nairobi’s Ngara area, where large quantities of bhang and Ksh.13.4 million in cash were seized
The High court on Wednesday released her on sh 1 million cashbail and she was also ordered to surrender her passport to the court.
Magistrate Njeri Thuku had denied her bail on grounds that she was a flight risk due to her alleged involvement in drug trafficking.
The Magistrate had noted that it was not in the best interests of justice for her to be granted bond.
However, through lawyer Danstan Omari, she filed for review of the bond terms arguing she had an underlying medical condition that required constant monitoring and medication, further asserting that if she was denied bail, her condition would worsen.
